Yes. Every system we install can be set up for secure remote viewing, so you can check live cameras and play back recordings from your phone, tablet or computer wherever you are. We configure the app on your devices before we leave and show you how to use it.
How many cameras do I need?
It depends on what you want to cover. Most homes are well covered with two to four cameras positioned over entrances, driveways and rear access. Commercial premises vary much more, which is why we always survey first. We would rather specify four well placed cameras than sell you eight badly placed ones.
Do I need to register my business CCTV with the ICO?
If your business operates CCTV that captures images of people, you are processing personal data under UK GDPR. In most cases that means registering with the Information Commissioner's Office, paying the data protection fee, displaying clear signage and keeping footage secure. We position cameras to avoid overlooking areas you have no reason to record and can advise on signage during the survey. Domestic CCTV covering only your own property does not normally require registration.
How long is CCTV footage kept?
Footage is stored on a recorder on site and overwritten automatically once the storage is full. How far back that reaches depends on the storage fitted, the number of cameras and the recording settings; around 14 to 31 days is typical and we size the recorder to give you the retention you want. For businesses, keeping footage no longer than you need it is also good data protection practice.
Can you repair or upgrade an existing CCTV system?
Usually, yes. We can often replace failed cameras, upgrade an old recorder to a modern HD one while reusing existing cabling, or add cameras to extend coverage. We start by inspecting what is there and give you an honest view on whether repairing, upgrading or replacing is the better value option.
