Fire Alarm Maintenance and Servicing in West London
Routine servicing, testing, fault-finding and repairs for fire detection and alarm systems across Uxbridge, Hillingdon and West London, with reference to BS 5839. We service systems we installed and systems installed by others.

Keep your fire alarm working and your records in order
A fire alarm that has not been serviced is a liability twice over: it may not work when it matters, and it leaves the responsible person without the maintenance records the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 expects. Ignis Secure Limited provides planned fire alarm servicing with reference to BS 5839, so your system stays reliable and your logbook and certificates stay up to date.
We look after fire alarm systems in offices, shops, restaurants, schools, warehouses, HMOs and blocks of flats across West London. Because we are a local team, service visits are easy to arrange and an engineer is never far away when something needs fixing between visits.
What our fire alarm maintenance service includes
- Scheduled service visits, normally every six months in line with BS 5839-1
- Inspection of the panel, batteries and standby power supplies
- Testing of detectors, call points and sounders on rotation, so every device is covered across the year
- A written service report and certificate after every visit
- Logbook checks and updates, so your records stand up to inspection
- Fault-finding and repairs, including persistent false alarm problems
- Reminders when your next service is due, so nothing slips
Servicing, fault-finding and repairs
Routine servicing
Planned visits at agreed intervals, usually six-monthly. We test and inspect the system, record the results and leave you with the paperwork your fire risk assessment and insurers expect to see.
Fault-finding
When a panel shows a fault or the system keeps false alarming, we trace the cause methodically, whether that is a failing device, a wiring issue, or a detector that is the wrong type for the room it is in. We fix the cause, not just the symptom.
Repairs and upgrades
We replace faulty or obsolete devices, repair damaged wiring and upgrade ageing panels. Where a system is close to the end of its life, we tell you straight and set out the options with costs, so you can plan rather than react.
System takeovers
Not happy with your current maintenance provider, or inherited a system with no history? We take over systems installed by other companies, starting with a full condition inspection so you know exactly where you stand.
Who we provide fire alarm servicing for
- Businesses that need six-monthly servicing and tidy records for their fire risk assessment and insurance.
- Landlords and letting agents with HMOs and rented properties, where licensing conditions require maintained detection.
- Blocks of flats and managing agents, where communal systems need consistent, documented attention.
- Schools and community buildings, where visits are planned around term times and building use.

How our servicing works
-
Initial inspection
We inspect your system and its records, note its condition and confirm what servicing schedule it needs. If we are taking over from another provider, this gives you a clear starting point.
-
Agreed schedule
We agree service intervals and a simple written price. No long small print, just planned visits at times that suit your building.
-
Service visits
Our engineer tests and inspects the system, updates the logbook and leaves a service report and certificate. Anything that needs attention is flagged with a clear recommendation and cost.
-
Support between visits
If a fault or false alarm crops up between services, call us. Being local means we can usually get an engineer to you quickly.
How much does fire alarm maintenance cost?
It depends on the size of the system, the number of devices and how many visits a year the building needs. We quote a fixed price per visit or per year after seeing the system, so you know exactly what servicing will cost before you commit. There is no charge for the initial inspection and quotation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a fire alarm be serviced?
BS 5839-1 recommends that fire alarm systems in non domestic premises are inspected and serviced by a competent person at intervals of no more than six months. Larger or higher risk buildings sometimes call for quarterly visits. On top of that, the standard recommends a weekly user test of a manual call point, which your own staff can carry out once we have shown them how.
What happens during a fire alarm service visit?
We inspect the panel and check the logbook, test a proportion of detectors and call points so that every device is tested across the year, check batteries and standby power, look for changes to the building that affect coverage, and record everything. You receive a service report and certificate for your records, and we flag anything that needs attention before it becomes a problem.
Can you take over a fire alarm system installed by another company?
Yes. We regularly take over the servicing of systems installed by other companies. We start with a full inspection of the panel, devices and documentation, tell you honestly what condition the system is in, and then pick up routine servicing from there. You do not need the original installer to maintain a fire alarm.
My fire alarm keeps going off for no reason. Can you fix it?
Almost always, yes. Repeated false alarms usually come down to a traceable cause such as a detector in the wrong place or the wrong type, dust or steam reaching a detector, a wiring fault or an ageing device. We carry out systematic fault-finding, identify the cause and put it right, rather than simply silencing the panel and leaving the problem in place.
Do I legally have to maintain my fire alarm?
In England and Wales the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to keep fire safety equipment, including the fire alarm, in efficient working order and in good repair. Regular servicing with reference to BS 5839, together with a completed logbook, is the accepted way of demonstrating that you have done so.
