Burglar Alarm Servicing and Repairs in West London

Annual servicing, fault-finding and repairs for home and business burglar alarms across Uxbridge, Hillingdon and West London, including alarms another company installed.

Alarm playing up? It can usually be fixed

Most burglar alarm problems are not a reason to buy a new system. A keypad that will not stop beeping, false alarms in the middle of the night, a bell box that goes off on its own or a fault message nobody understands usually comes down to a battery, a sensor or a setting, and an engineer can put it right in one visit.

Ignis Secure services and repairs burglar alarms for homes and businesses across Uxbridge, Hillingdon and West London. We work on wired, wireless and hybrid systems, including ones fitted by other companies, and if a system is no longer worth repairing we will tell you before any work starts.

Faults we fix

  • Keypad beeping, or showing a fault, battery, power or tamper message
  • False alarms, especially at night or in wind and rain
  • An outside bell box that sounds on its own, or does not sound at all
  • A flat backup battery, so the alarm fails as soon as the power goes off
  • Wireless sensors with flat batteries or a weak signal
  • Movement sensors that no longer pick anyone up
  • Keyfobs, keypads or the app not responding
  • Lost user codes, or no engineer code from the previous installer

If your keypad is beeping right now, our guide to why a burglar alarm beeps explains what each warning means and what is safe to do yourself.

Taking over an alarm someone else installed

Plenty of alarms end up with nobody looking after them. The installer has stopped trading or stopped answering the phone, the contract has run out, or you have moved into a house with an alarm already on the wall and no codes to go with it. We take over the servicing of these systems so they are properly looked after again.

Just moved in? Our guide to moving into a house with a burglar alarm and no codes covers what to ask the seller and what happens if the panel is locked.

  1. Tell us what you have

The make is usually printed on the keypad or the bell box. A photo of the keypad and any message on it, sent to us on WhatsApp, helps us bring the right parts.

  2. Engineer access

We use the existing engineer code if you have it. If not, many panels can be reset to factory settings. Some are locked by the original installer, and if yours is one of them we explain the options before doing anything.

  3. Full service and new codes

We test the whole system, set new user codes and give you a written report of what is fitted and what condition it is in. Anything that needs replacing is priced for you to agree first.

  4. Looked after from then on

Book a one-off visit when you need one, or put the alarm on an annual maintenance contract with visits booked before they fall due.

What a service includes

A burglar alarm should be serviced once a year, or every six months if it is monitored or has police response. A typical house takes around an hour. Every service covers:

  • Control panel check, with a review of the event log and fault history
  • Backup battery test, with a replacement if it is near the end of its life
  • Walk test of every movement sensor
  • Door and window contacts, shock sensors and panic buttons
  • The outside bell box: siren, strobe, its own battery and tamper
  • Batteries in wireless sensors, keyfobs and keypads
  • A signalling test to the app or the monitoring centre
  • A written report at the end of the visit

Our guide to how often a burglar alarm should be serviced explains where those intervals come from and what insurers expect.

One-off visit or maintenance contract

One-off service or repair

For when the alarm is playing up, you have just moved in, or it has simply been years since anyone looked at it. We come out, fix the fault or service the system, and leave you with a written report.

Annual maintenance contract

Your visits are scheduled for you, once or twice a year depending on the system, and every visit is recorded. That record matters: many commercial insurance policies, and some home policies, require the alarm to be maintained under contract.

Repair or replace?

Most alarms are worth repairing. A new battery, a replacement sensor or a reset panel puts most faults right for a fraction of the cost of a new system. The exceptions are very old panels that parts are no longer made for, and systems that keep failing despite repairs. In those cases we quote for a replacement so you can compare, and an existing wired system can often keep its cabling with a new panel fitted to it. See our burglar alarm installation page for new systems.

Homes and businesses

Homes. Most home alarms are bells-only or app-based, so one service a year is enough. Early autumn is a good time to book it, before the darker evenings.

Businesses. Shops, offices, warehouses and industrial units often have monitored alarms, six-monthly servicing and an insurer who wants to see the records. We can combine alarm visits with fire alarm servicing and CCTV, so one contractor covers the lot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you service a burglar alarm another company installed?

Usually, yes. We work on wired, wireless and hybrid systems fitted by other installers. We need the engineer code or the ability to reset the panel, and if a system is too old to get parts for we will tell you before doing any work.

I have moved into a house with an alarm and no codes. What can I do?

Call us. In most cases an engineer can reset the panel, set new user codes and service the system in the same visit, so you know it works. Some panels are locked by the original installer. If yours is, we explain the options, which may mean contacting that company or replacing the control panel.

Why does my burglar alarm keep beeping?

Usually because the panel has logged a fault or warning: a low backup battery, a power cut, a tamper, or a wireless sensor with a flat battery or a weak signal. The keypad normally shows which. Entering your code may silence it, but the beeping comes back until the cause is fixed. Avoid opening the panel or the bell box yourself, as that can set off a tamper alarm.

How often should a burglar alarm be serviced?

Once a year for a bells-only or app-based alarm, and every six months for a monitored alarm or one with police response.

Do you offer burglar alarm maintenance contracts?

Yes. You can book a one-off service or repair, or put the alarm on an annual maintenance contract, with visits scheduled for you and a written record of each one for your insurer.

How long does a burglar alarm service take?

Around an hour for a typical house. Larger homes and commercial premises take longer, depending on how many sensors there are.
